According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Spider-man trilogy is said to be spawning a new film.  The spin-off will be based on the villain, Venom.

Sony is currently seeking writers for a new draft to a script that has already been penned by Jacob Estes.  No word on casting yet, either.  Topher Grace played Venom in Spider-man 3, but Sony is not sure that he could carry a whole movie on his own.

No comments from either Sony or Marvel were made about the story.

Spider-man 4 is set to hit theatres in 2011.
